How Porta Diagonal builds its personality through design

In large cities, design shapes not only spaces, but also the way we experience them. Porta Diagonal is born from the conviction that architecture and urban planning can reflect a deeper purpose. In this project, design is both an aesthetic gesture and a language that expresses the values of sustainability, wellbeing, innovation and balance with nature that give meaning to the entire development.

Every line, texture and material responds to a single idea: to create an environment where nature, city and people coexist in harmony.

Design with purpose: beyond aesthetics

At Porta Diagonal, design is conceived as a transformative tool. It is not only about how a building looks, but about how it feels, how it is lived in and what it evokes in those who experience it.

The development has been designed to be more human, accessible and sustainable. A place that inspires wellbeing, encourages social interaction and connects with the natural essence of its surroundings.

Behind this vision are Batlleiroig and GCA Architects, the studios responsible for shaping the architectural identity of the project. Both share a contemporary approach that combines technology, vegetation, natural materials and efficiency to create living, coherent architecture.

Elements that define the personality of Porta Diagonal

Biophilia as the essence

Porta Diagonal embraces nature as a structural element. Green façades, living terraces and vertical gardens are more than aesthetic solutions: they are ecosystems that purify the air, reduce temperature and emotionally connect people with their environment.

Verticality as a symbol

The project’s towers are visual landmarks that redefine the metropolitan skyline. But their height is not intended to dominate, rather to integrate. Here, verticality means using space efficiently, freeing up ground level for green areas and offering panoramic views that strengthen the connection with Collserola.

Public space as the soul

Beyond the buildings, Porta Diagonal is defined by its square, pathways and gardens. These open spaces invite people to walk, pause and meet. They are gathering points that encourage community life, rest and interaction.

Conscious materials

The selected materials convey a sense of local identity: stone, ceramics, metal and vegetation are combined with warm, natural tones. Their use is deliberate, resulting from careful reflection on sustainability and durability. Together, they reinforce the Mediterranean character and the connection to the territory.

Design for people: functionality and wellbeing

At Porta Diagonal, design is placed at the service of people. Natural light, cross ventilation, open views and a constant relationship with nature ensure that every space contributes to physical and emotional wellbeing.

Open communal areas, terraces and outdoor working environments promote a more active, balanced and healthy lifestyle. In addition, accessible design ensures that everyone can enjoy the environment without barriers.

Every design decision is made to enhance everyday experience and to make this setting a liveable, welcoming and human place.
