A public space that connects nature, city and people.

The Porta Diagonal public space has been designed prioritising sustainability, wellbeing and continuity: a fluid connection between the city and nature. An accessible and lively route links every corner of the project, offering spaces designed for people.

The welcome square
The route begins at The Gateway, a welcoming space that acts as a transition between Esplugues, Barcelona and Porta Diagonal. This space on the lower level, where the water pond is located, is the starting point of the path that ascends in an accessible way through the different levels of the project until it reaches Collserola.

The Path: connection and exploration
The Path is the backbone of Porta Diagonal: an accessible, zigzagging route that winds under pines and holm oaks, connecting gardens, squares and buildings with the natural park of Collserola.
Designed to encourage movement and interaction, this path not only facilitates access to all areas, but also reinforces the feeling of being immersed in a natural environment. Along its route, there are various spaces designed for enjoyment and conviviality.
Spaces that invite you to enjoy and connect
Along Porta Diagonal, you will discover various spaces conceived with people at the centre of the design that transform the place into a multifaceted meeting point:

The Pine Grove
Situated on the hillside that connects to Collserola, this environment of native vegetation allows a natural transition with the park and offers a perfect place to stroll and enjoy the landscape.

The Square
The social heart of the project, designed to relax, meet or enjoy outdoor activities. Designed to be fresh and welcoming, it is the ultimate meeting point.

The Amphitheatre
A versatile space within the Plaza for cultural and social events, which also functions as a viewing platform.
Beyond these spaces designed for wellbeing, Porta Diagonal puts nature and sustainability at the centre of the project through different strategies.

Biotopes: Sustainable urban ecosystems
A set of biotopes act as small urban ecosystems, favouring the growth of vegetation and refreshing the environment. They are an integrated solution in the design of public space to enhance biodiversity and climate resilience.

Sustainable materiality and unique design
The public space is built with natural and local materials, establishing a dialogue with the Collserola landscape and reinforcing the identity of the place:
- Natural and local stone, which anchors the project to its territory.
- Permeable surfaces, which contribute to thermal regulation and efficient water management.
- The classic Barcelona panot, but adapted to the typical colour of Esplugues, linking both cities.

Water as a key
element
A naturally purified sheet of water with biofilters not only refreshes the environment, but also generates a multi-sensory and relaxing experience. Water is not only an essential resource, but also a key element that connects people with nature and the environment.
The sheet of water not only plays a landscaping role, but also helps to refresh the environment and attract biodiversity. Over time, its sound will mingle with the songs of birds and frogs, enriching the sensory experience of the public space.
Shade, vegetation, sustainable materials, water and biotopes enable a public space designed to offer wellbeing, comfort and a more humane and sustainable urban experience.
